Strauss & Wagner Review: Luxfit Silicone & Foam Eartips

Strauss & Wagner released a line of eartips, and I've been slowly using them more and more throughout my listening. One that has caught my attention is the Luxfit, a set of eartips with a unique combination of liquid silicone and memory foam. What are these eartips like, you may ask? This review will analyze the details of material comfort and sound differences. For $29.95, the Luxfit could be a great upgrade for your IEM.
LOOK & FEEL
Starting with the looks, the Strauss & Wagner Luxfit shows that bright colors should not be ignored. The orange foam on the inside of the eartip is bright and easily spotted on a desk, so you won't have any trouble finding them should you misplace them. The unique part of these eartips is the two types of material that it is made of. Normally, you see eartips that are made of silicone or foam, and its up to you to choose which material you like best. With the Luxfit, you get the best of both worlds. You can have the memory foam structure and the softness of medical-grade silicone. It's a great way to smoothly segue from a silicone eartip to a foam one without having to sacrifice the familiar comfort of silicone.
I found the Luxfit eartips to be quite comfortable. The silicone is sticky to be stable in the ear, but also smooth so it is easy to take your IEMs on and off. I noticed that the small size is actually a bit larger than most, so it was a bit bigger than I expected. If you have smaller ears, the Luxfit eartips may not be for you due to size alone.
The Luxfit comes with three different sizes, one of each size. You can test out each size to see which one is the most comfortable for you. Like the SoundNest and other variations, Strauss & Wagner gives you the exact measurements of the internal and external diameters of each eartip size. All the internal nozzles are 4.5mm in diameter, and the other dimensions are as follows:
- Small: 10.7mm (D) 9mm (H)
- Medium: 11.6mm (D) 9mm (H)
- Large: 13mm (D) 8.5mm (H)
COMPATIBLE WITH…
The Luxfit eartips have a pretty standard internal nozzle diameter, which makes them compatible with a lot of different IEMs. One thing to look out for with these is the stiffness that comes from the foam inside. Because the foam is stiffer than the silicone, it can sometimes make it hard to get the eartips securely on the IEMs. It does take a bit of patience, but once you get the eartips on, the Luxfit is secure and stable. You won't have to worry about them falling off or become loose in your ears.
You'll find the Luxfit is compatible with any of the IEMs listed below. If you don't see your IEM listed, feel free to come to Audio46 and test it out yourself, or give us a call to ask any other followup questions.

SOUND QUALITY
Now for the real test: how do the Luxfit eartips change the sound of your IEMs? Thankfully, I can say that the sound is not as affected as you may think. The Luxfit provides you with a smooth sound that is honest and familiar to what you already know your IEMs to be. I tested out the Luxfit on a few different IEMs, seeing how the various sound signatures were influenced by the change in eartip.
Overall, there wasn't much change and it was simply the sound I remember each IEM being. After a more careful analysis, I found that the Luxfit did give a little bit of brightness to some IEMs. It was nice to have that stable in-ear fit, and there was an added clarity throughout the sound signature thanks to the liquid silicone. You got a bit of warmth and extra punch in the bass because of the more secure seal, but the color and texture of instruments wasn't changed to be something completely unrecognizable. If you're looking for an eartip that won't change the sound of your IEM, the Luxfit is a great option. The sound quality is consistent and clear, so you're able to appreciate the fit and comfort without worry about a sonic difference.
LUXFIT VS OTHER EARTIPS
The Luxfit may join a line of eartips you are considering for your IEM. What sets this one apart from the rest? Are there certain perks of the Luxfit versus other models? The Luxfit is larger than most eartips, even on the smallest size. For people with smaller ears, you may find better compatibility in size with Azla's Foamax or Xelastic II. Still, when it comes to stability, the Luxfit impresses more than other eartips. You have the advantage of memory foam to know that your earphone will fit perfectly every time, and the silicone ensures comfort every time. With other foam eartips, you may not be able to promise the same comfort, and with purely silicone, you risk have a looser structure that feels flimsy. The Luxfit is the best of both worlds, which makes them worth the higher value they retail for.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The Strauss & Wagner Luxfit eartips are a nice option for people looking for a new eartip for their IEMs. It is an upgrade from your standard silicone eartip, where you can get the memory foam without having to sacrifice the comfort that comes with silicone. The sound is consistent and smooth, allowing for your IEMs to sound exactly how you expect. If you were ever on the fence about foam eartips, the Luxfit is a great option for trying them out and seeing if you like the memory foam technology.
