Strauss & Wagner Review: EchoSeal Foam Eartips

Strauss & Wagner Review: EchoSeal Foam Eartips

If you thought Strauss & Wagner were just making silicone eartips, let me be the first to tell you that is not the case. The Strauss & Wagner EchoSeal eartips are part of the lineup of accessories the company has to offer, this time in two different colors of memory foam. In this review, we'll talk about all the details that make these eartips a nice addition to your IEMs.

LOOK & FEEL

The EchoSeal eartips look pretty similar to any other standard foam eartip. The slow-rebound memory foam is soft and comfortable to wear in the ear, really taking shape to your ear so you have a perfect seal. While the foam eartips may not be as easy to clean as silicone, you get the added bonus of a more exact and pressurized seal.

As someone who does not regularly, I was very impressed with the performance of the EchoSeal. The comfort was top-tier, and I found it was very easy to wear these for extended periods of time. It did not feel too invasive or too isolating of a seal to be disorientating. The only qualm I found with the EchoSeal may have been the inability to clean it easily, though you can get around this by using non-alcohol wipes. You'll be able to clean any dust or grime that may build up and keep your eartips fresh as opposed to having to replace them consistently.

The EchoSeal is the only eartip that comes in color variations. Whether it be a small, medium, large, or multipack, you can get the EchoSeal in grey or black foam. You can test out each size to see which one is the most comfortable for you. Like the other variations, Strauss & Wagner give you the exact measurements of the internal and external diameters of each eartip size. All the internal nozzles are 4.9mm in diameter, which is a little larger than most eartips. The other dimensions are as follows:

  • Small: 9.9mm (D) 8.5mm (H)
  • Medium: 10.7mm (D) 8.5mm (H)
  • Large: 11.4mm (D) 8.5mm (H)

COMPATIBLE WITH…

There aren't many in-ear monitors that the EchoSeal is not compatible with. If you examine most wired options, the odds are that the EchoSeal will fit with its standard nozzle size and stable interior grip. Where we start getting a little more selective is with the true wireless selection. The EchoSeal eartips are quite long in height, so you have to be careful when adding them to any true wireless charging case. For a better foam option for true wireless, you may want to instead check out the SonicSil eartips from Strauss & Wagner instead.

You'll find the EchoSeal eartips are compatible with any of the IEMs listed below. If you don't see your IEM listed, feel free to come to Audio46 and test it out yourself. You can also give us a call to ask any other followup questions.

SOUND QUALITY

What does the EchoSeal sound like on your IEMs? I used a large collection of IEMs for my testing, and in each of the pairs, there were consistent qualities or changes that I noticed. For starters, it was good to hear that the EchoSeal didn't drastically change the IEMs' sound signature entirely. I was able to appreciate the smooth and balanced sound of the 64 Audio U12t as well as the dynamics coming from the Campfire Supermoon. The EchoSeal made the signature much easier to pick apart and analyze due to the exceptional isolation from the memory foam.

I found that the EchoSeal's good isolation also brought about a certain warmth and bass boost to sound signatures. The eartips didn't make the earphones completely bass-heavy; in fact, already bassy IEMs like the Noble Audio XM-1 didn't get overwhelmed by lower frequencies like I feared. Instead, the bass stayed controlled and tight. I liked how some brighter IEMs still had excellent detail and shine. The EchoSeal struck a good balance between warmth, depth, and colorful lightness. It was like the signatures got a little more dynamic and immersive with the addition of the foam seal.

ECHOSEAL VS OTHER EARTIPS

Other foam eartips will likely perform the same as the EchoSeal. The Azla Foamax eartips are exceptionally good and a popular choice for people looking for an option away from silicone. The Foamax comes with a mesh screen to have the eartips sit on the IEMs a certain way. The EchoSeal doesn't have this mesh filter, so you can adjust how the eartip sits on the earphone to your liking. This doesn't have much influence on the sound; you may hear more bass the further you put the earphones in your ear.

Compared to other Strauss & Wagner eartips, you'll likely find the EchoSeal to be the least breathable but provide the most isolation. If you're concerned about a breathable fit and light pressure, the SoundNest may be a better suggestion. Still, the EchoSeal wins in the category of best isolation and immersion. Comfort is consistent in each, so you can use any for long periods of time and still feel relaxed.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Strauss & Wagner EchoSeal foam eartips are a reinented classic. If you're considering doing the switch from silicone to foam, this is a great, affordable option with different comfort and aesthetic choices. With added warmth but honest reproduction, you'll be able to enjoy your favorite IEMs with better isolation and immersion for all genres.

You can get the Strauss & Wagner EchoSeal at Audio46.
